Dr. Zachary Shepard is the Principal Toxicologist for the Rhode Island Department of Health’s Division of Environmental Health. His work examines the health risks posed by environmental contaminants in the environment and teaches people how to protect themselves from chemicals.

• Describe what PFAS is and the magnitude of the problem that PFAS poses to public drinking water in Rhode Island
• Recognize health effects associated with PFAS
• Explain how public drinking water is regulated in the United States
• Translate the science of PFAS to the public
