Kathleen Hughes, NP, is a pediatric nurse practitioner and the director of the Fostering Health Program at Hasbro Primary Care. Fostering Health seeks to support children and families who are involved in the foster care system in Rhode Island and who lack a regular pediatrician. Director Hughes has worked in pediatrics for 13 years. Prior to this, she taught high school and college English. She is a published novelist and former journalist.

- Identify the special healthcare needs of children in foster care.
- Apply clinical guidance offered by the American Academy of Pediatrics for Children in Foster Care.
- Recognize and decrease implicit bias against families involved in the child welfare system.
- Develop skills in providing culturally aware and congruent care to all patients and families.
