Seminar Title:
Anal Cancer Prevention Update and the Role of HPV Vaccination in Persons with HIV.
Presented by: Grant Ellsworth, M.D.
Brief Description:
Persons with HIV are disproportionately affected by anal cancer. This burden remains higher even in the setting of effective anti-retroviral therapies. The ANCHOR study recently announced that a screen and treat strategy for anal cancer precursors is an effective strategy to reduce the anal cancer burden in this population. We will discuss clinical strategies for anal cancer prevention and explore whether HPV vaccines will reduce the cancer burden in this population and if vaccines have a role in the prevention of other HPV-caused cancers.
