Pregnancy and early-parenthood is an opportunity for direct contact, meaningful engagement, supportive understanding, and early intervention when working with people who use drugs. This workshop will explore the stigma associated with drug use, the misconceptions commonly held regarding pregnancy and exposure to drugs, and the opportunities for engagement instead of shame during pregnancy, delivery, and neonatal care. We will discuss the often confusing research and data associated with pregnancy and drug use, strategized ways to engage pregnant people who might be using drugs, and explore ways to best address post-delivery drug use through a Harm Reduction approach.
