Title: Living Longer with HIV: Challenges and Triumphs of an Aging Population
Speaker:
Matthew L. Russell, MD, MSc
Instructor in Medicine, Harvard Medical School
Associate Physician, Massachusetts General Hospital
Description:
As HIV prevention, diagnosis, and treatments have improved, people with HIV (PWH) are living longer and approaching life expectancies of non-infected individuals. There is still, however, a life expectancy gap that is informed by earlier onset of chronic medical conditions and Geriatric syndromes. This talk highlights the epidemiology of HIV and aging and the challenges for PWH age 50 and older, and poses questions for further care model refinement.
