Presentation Overview:
Use of methamphetamine (MA) is increasing in many parts of the US, including New England. There is substantial new information on the role of MA in the overdose crisis, new information on effects of MA on the body and brain, a recognition of clinical challenges and evidence-based treatments. MA use plays a unique role in transmission of HIV as a function of its promotion of high risk sexual behavior, particularly among MSM. This presentation will review these areas and some strategies for improving outcomes/reduce harm with individuals who use MA.
