Erin M. Miers, PsyD will present on suicide and people living with HIV and people who use substances, she will share some current statistics on suicide as well as a brief assessment that can be done with patients around suicidal ideation and how to determine safety. Suicide is a scary topic, but when we have the tools to help others, including the knowledge and awareness, we can help those who might not know what to do with their suicidal thoughts and feelings.
Specific Objectives for this program are that learners will be able to:
- Be able to explain how suicidal ideation impacts PLWH and people who are using substances.
- Be able to describe behaviors that suggestion possible suicidal ideation in patients.
- Identify at least one national suicide prevention resource and what services they provide to individuals struggling with suicidal ideation.
- Identify at least one strategy to help with provider self-care around grief and death
